Community Service is one of the most important committees in the Whitstable Rotary Club and aims to demonstrate the motto of Rotarians world-wide: 'Service Above Self'.
Members give practical assistance and raise funds to support projects and activities that improve life in the local community, whether they are a 'one off' or an on-going cause.
The Community Service Committee within the Whitstable Rotary Club is, as the title suggests, responsible for organising and supporting events that raise funds benefit the local community. Such events include:
Arranging & hosting a Christmas party for young adults from the
Swalecliffe Opportunity Centre and the Strode Park Foundation.
Taking children from local families to the pantomime with the Lindley Players
Provide the organisation and funding for youth projects such as
'Battle of the Bands.'
Helping to fund the Kent Music School.
The committee also receives many requests for funding from a wide range of both individual and group organisations within Whitstable and is often able to give financial support or time and effort, as agreed by the Club. Please see the section 'How to apply for funding.'
Unlike some clubs, the Rotary Club of Whitstable collects all its funds through donations from members of the public and local businesses. If you have an idea as to how we might raise funds or have some time or expertise by how you might help or even wish to make a donation, please do contact us!
Some of the ways in which we raise funds for our local community are:
Local supermarkets Sainsburys and Tesco, kindly allow us to collect at Christmas and Easter.
Members auction their services to raise funds (not much in Mr Snips case!)
