In Rotary it all starts with an individuals classification, or vocation. Vocational Service is the only service that focuses on the individual Rotarian; all others are focused on Rotary as a group. Rotary is made up of individuals from all kinds of backgrounds of cultures, education, financial levels, religious beliefs, political beliefs, family backgrounds, and interests. Each and every one of these facets, regardless of which category or belief you fall within, can benefit Rotary in some way.

Vocational Service, one of Rotary's Avenues of Service, encourages Rotarians to serve others through their professions and to practice high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations and inspire others in the process. The Whitstable Rotary club this year is seeking to fulfil this function through the education of its members.

The committee arranges trips and visits for Club members and their partners to local businesses and enterprises and usually about twelve informative talks with prominent speakers per year.

For example, visits have been organised to a local micro brewery (very popular!), the Magic Circle and the local law courts. Recent speakers have included a scientist from the University of Kent on the Rosetta project, trip to the Spitfire Museum in Thanet, visit to Bletchley Park, talk on Canterbury ghosts, Whitstable Maritime, a wine tasting and bottling evening given by our French friend, and fellow Rotarian from our partner club Hazebrouck and various local & international good causes  - and there are some great speakers/topics to come!
